At Nyla Noor, we absolutely love a good cause. For years, Saifra and I have supported a number of charities including New York Cares, IRC, iMentor, and Children’s AIDS Society. Whether it be with a charitable donation or with our time, we have always found working with non profits to be soothing to the soul.  So when we were approached by one of our favorite bloggers, 2morrowknight, to be featured in his latest post, 16 Amazing Women on Twitter and the Awesome Charities They Support , we were beyond thrilled! Saifra and I chose two very worthy causes that we actively support, LRBT America and YourDIL.

LRBT America is an organization which raises money and awareness in order to help fight blindness and also promote the accessibility to free and quality eye care for those in Pakistan who are in need. Funds that have been previously raised have gone towards the purchasing of medical equipment and supplies for LRBT hospitals in Korangi, Tando Adam, Akor Khattak, Shahpur, Mansehra, Law (Multan), Lahore, Quetta and Pakpattan. YourDIL is an organization that supports the advancement of literacy throughout remote and neglected areas of Pakistan. DIL creates, takes on and preserves primary and secondary schools for underprivileged children, particularly young girls. Youth Outreach Developments in Literacy (YourDIL) is an extension of DIL, which promotes the DIL organization through events as well as young networking initiatives. It is clear that in today’s strained economic environment the organizations that quite possibly have been hit the hardest have been non profit organizations. Exposure to these important and vital organizations is a great reminder to all of us to continue to support our charities (whether it be with money or our time!) on a local, national and global level.

Our hope one day is to create a Nyla Noor non- profit entity where we can give back directly. We are slowly learning that this endeavor takes some time to put together, but it is in the back our our minds and we are looking forward to the day when the project can get some relevant traction!
